Tooth Extractions & Wisdom Teeth in Vancouver
At Family Dental Care Kitsilano - Dr. Harry Sangha Dentistry, our Vancouver dentist performs tooth extractions and wisdom teeth removal when a tooth cannot be saved or is causing issues for your oral health.
What is a Tooth Extraction?
When we extract a tooth, we remove it from its socket in the bone. At Family Dental Care Kitsilano - Dr. Harry Sangha Dentistry, our dentist completes tooth extractions only when a less invasive option would prove insufficient, or if keeping the tooth would put your oral health at risk.
A tooth may be pulled if it is excessively damaged, or if a wisdom tooth has become problematic. Teeth are also sometimes extracted to prepare for other dental treatments.
Wisdom Tooth Removal
This last set of molars erupts in the back corners of a normal adult mouth, typically for people between 17 and 25 years of age.
This third set of teeth is not always functional, and may crowd out other teeth as they emerge.
As they grow in, they may also cause problems for your oral hygiene. In these cases, your dentist may recommend having them extracted.
Repairing Excessive Damage
In most cases, whenever possible your dentist will work to save a tooth. However, some circumstances such as gum disease, injury or excessive decay will require the tooth to be extracted. Before a tooth is pulled, the area surrounding it is numbed with topical or injectable anesthetic.
If you have a damaged tooth that needs to be pulled, your dentist will explain which tooth replacement options may work for you, including dentures, or dental crowns or bridges.
